During today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that multiple Final Fantasy games in both the mainline series and spinoffs are coming. Final Fantasy VII, IX, X, X-2, Final Fantasy XII, Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon, and World of Final Fantasy (titled Maxima) are coming to Switch, in addition to the previously announced Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles and Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition.
This is the first time the PlayStation Final Fantasy games have ever been ported to another console, long-assumed to be locked to Sony hardware due to an early-2000s investment Sony made in Squaresoft. Sony sold off their stake in Square recently, perhaps paving the way for the Japanese RPG giant to release the well-loved Final Fantasy games elsewhere.
World of Final Fantasy Maxima releases November 6, Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition releases today, Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon is this winter, while everything else is 2019.
