In today’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, director Masahiro Sakurai revealed a free DLC character coming to the game in an update in a few months. The character is the Piranha Plant, the oscillating obstacle from the Super Mario Bros. series, as a fighter in the game.
Piranha Plant moves around in a moving pipe, popping out and using the pipe to do attacks. His final Smash turns Petey Piranha into a Stand-like projection above him.
While Piranha Plant won’t be ready for launch, the character will be coming as free DLC after release “in a few months.” Digital owners will get him free, while people who buy the game at launch register the game with their Nintendo account. Players who purchase the game later will need to pick up the character as DLC.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases on December 7 on Nintendo Switch.
